Fall 2009 Recap!

After a whole summer and semester of no posts, the DeCadence blog is back!! We got a lot done this past semester, so here's a recap!

The Beginning

We started off the semester with a large number of gigs, as well as a search for new members! After a long and competitive day of callbacks, we emerged victorious with two new n00bs, soprano Gloria Kim and alto Christine Li! Both are ridiculously talented, and while they just got promoted from n00bdom, we're so glad to have to them singing with us.

Gigs, Gigs, Gigs

As always, our weekly Sprouls this semester have been a blast. Special thanks to everyone who's been showing up to watch us perform!

DeCadence performed alongside many of Berkeley's different a cappella ensembles in UCCE's Halloween Show, held in Dwinelle the Thursday before Halloween. It's traditional to dress up in a theme for the UCCE Halloween Show, so we showed up as Harry Potter characters!

Our 3 song set included:
Dr. Horrible Medley
Witches Ain't Fit (adjusted lyrics from our regular fare)
The Mysterious Ticking Noise, from Harry Potter Puppet Pals - newly arranged by Stacy!

Here's a couple videos:

This is Madness!! No, this is DeCadence Retreat!

After performing at Noteworthy's awesome Fall Show, DeCadence headed for the hills, across the bay to Stacy's home in Sebastopol. Sonoma County was beautiful, and an amazing getaway for us to learn lots of music, bond, choreography, and learn about how mean Annie Lee has the potential to be.

Lisa prepared a delicious pasta lunch and most of the group pitched in to cook custom pizzas for dinner while the Arrangement Committee worked on a couple new surprises we debuted during the semester.

Other retreat highlights included: hella bonding games, hot tubbing, an amazingly acoustically-tuned wine cave to sing in, hyperactive canine friends, multiple stops at In-N-Out, half the group getting sick and losing their voices, learning how to dog whistle, and jam seshing!

West Coast A Cappella Showcase

The weekend after we all got sick and lost our voices, our group performed in the Octet and Overtone's West Coast A Cappella Showcase, alongside plenty of Berkeley groups but also groups from UCLA, Oregon, USC, UCSC, Davis, and more.

We performed the following set:
Say Goodbye - solo: Gloria
Snow Patrol - solos: Mark, Annie
Boston Medley - solos: Max, Christine

Videos! We're really proud of how well we did at the show =) Yay!

DeCadence Fall 2009 Show:
Bite Me! ... high school has never bee
n this spine-tingling...

On December 3 and 4, we had our Fall Show, featuring a delicious mix of Mean Girls and Twilight. Opening acts included Spot the Octopus and Thursday and UCSC's Cloud 9 on Friday.

We all had a blast, and we hope everyone who came to the concert did, too!! Videos of a lot of the songs we performed are up on Youtube, so you should go check them out!!

The End.... of 2009!

After our concert, we wrapped up our semester by reworking DeCadence policy & officer positions, bonding by having a Zachary's dinner, performing at the Fall 2009 L&S Convocation, and most importantly, giving a proper send off to one of our members who is leaving the group in the Spring. We love you, Annie, and hope you come back soon!!!! <3 onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs031.snc3/11863_882545165263_1238910_49210214_4397999_n.jpg">
See you all next semester!

Of all these Friends and Lovers...

Okayyy,
So, I haven't really updated the BLOG, but no fear--an update is here.

What has happened in the past two months? So much!

First of all, we had auditions and have taken in six new members!
Hartlyn Haynes
Tom Griffin
Mark Lee
Lonie Kim
Melissa Green
Stacy Rutz

CONGRATULATIONS N00BS!!

We had our variety show, UnCappella, which was a huge success. We thank all those who came out to support us and those who performed soooo much!

Finally, we had our concert! It was such a fun time. Some say our best yet! Thanks to everyone who made it a success, we really enjoyed ourselves!

So, this summer we're still doing some gigs, but mainly, we're busy in the DeCadence workshop working on new arrangements. We're psyched for the upcoming year and can't wait to share some more a Cappella music with y'all!

DeCadence: Road Trip...VRRRROOOM.

Hello Fans!

ICCA is over and we've had a few weeks to recuperate. We have bigger and better things to move on to--including new songs!

We had a great time preparing for ICCA's and love our new wardrobe. Thanks to everyone who supported us--fans and alumni alike. We love you all! Here are some pictures. We are also sad to see Chris Andersen go. We'll miss him on Sproul!

Right now, DeCadence is on the road in Los Angeles for Spring Tour. We just sang at The Grove in Hollywood and Venice Beach (we met some fairly interesting people there). We also had a concert with family and friends in Sun Valley where we made some good money, Yay! We're in Hermosa beach and are excited for more adventures. More updates and pictures to come!

Happy Spring Break!
DeCadence Love,
Nevin

The Beginning...

Hello DeCadence Fans!

So, finally, we have a blog! Thank you so much to David Spies, our webmaster and nifty bass, for putting this up.

As you can see from our website, we are a wily bunch of co-eds who sing a cappella music, duh! If you don't know what a cappella music is or haven't heard us live, check out this wiki article...

There is just so much wonderful "stuff" I would like to share with you fans, new and old, but unfortunately, I can't possibly share all our experiences from the last billion semesters we've been together. So, I start from now...basically this semester, Spring 2009!

So, what is ruling/rocking DeCadences' lives right now...

SPROULS:
(So...Sprouls, these are basically weekly performance we do on our plaza outside our student union...)
Last week, we had our Valentine's day Sproul, which was pretty awesome. Our theme was 'conversation hearts'. We each had our own heart with a nerdy/cute/sexy/mean message inside. I know for sure that we got people's attention. Some of our audience member's left with Valentine's they didn't have before...
And the best thing happened....
Last Wednsday was a cloudy day, and while Frannie Makabenta was singing her solo, Madonna's Like a Prayer, rays of sunshine came down upon DeCadence. It was pretty swell...

RECORDING:
So, we're recording a CD, which I'm sure many of you have realized by our announcements. I encourage all of you to donate towards upon which later we will send you a copy. Donations are $12. We've been recording diligently, while not losing sight of our immediate goal, ICCA's. So far, we've gotten through All These Things That I've Done and Dancing in the Moonlight! Here's some picture of us recording at Expressions in Emeryville, CA. (THANKS TO ANGELA FOR HELPING US!!!)

Also, mad thanks go out to Bryce, Trent (DeCadence Alums) and Jake for helping us with recording as well!

ICCA!!!!

It's almost here and we can't wait! I hope to see you all at the competition on Saturday. We've been working so hard towards it...and we can't wait to show everyone our hard work. I'm sure all of you are itching to hear our set (or not, it's okay if you're not...haha) but you'll just have to wait until this Saturday's ICCA (click here to learn more) Quarterfinals at Wheeler Auditorium on Berkeley's campus! :-P!

So, that's all folks. Check our list of upcoming gigs and join our ICCA facebook group! Hope to see you this Wed. on Sproul at 12p and on Sat. at Wheeler Auditorium at 7p.

~A Little DeCadence Never Hurts~
Peace,
Nevin

I'll leave the actual blogging up to him.
